FROM CHARLOTTE TO MAZATLAN

As you know I traveled to Mexico, Mazatlan last month and for the first time in my life, the flight was fast and easy. I had no problems at emigration and didn't run into any issues with Covid, but to be honest with you, inside me it was a huge battle because I didn't want to leave my parents or my sister. At the plane it was a really hard moment of crying, praying, and worshiping, where I realized God had a big purpose for this mission. That it is ok to miss them, but there is always hope and I setting my hope in Him. And yes I am learning how to be obedient and fully dependent on Him, even if it cost me a lot.

During my first week

During the first week, I stayed with my friend Esteban at his house. He is a missionary local from Mazatlan who I met 6 months ago and we became close friends. He leads a Skate ministry called Remanent, which aims at discipling and training young skaters in the community, teaching them the Bible and who God is.

It is incredible to see how many skaters have met God through a skateboard.

During the second week, I joined his community and was part of his ministry, it was super cool to see how Jesus and skateboards - surfers are changing kids' lives. The cool thing about this is that He is the result of Remnant ministry.

He ( ESTABAN ) is a kid that use to come to the skate park. And one day some leaders started to talk about God and started to disciple him and love him. As a result of that, he met God and God transformed his life. Now he is a missionary training and discipling youth skaters and surfers so they can know God.

Now I am part of the ministry every Saturday WE prepare all the surf boards, teaching and all the vans to teach the kids how to surf and who God is.

During the weekend I moved to the YWAM base (JUCUM BASE).

I joined the School of worship, during this week we did a staff training week. I met all the other leaders, some from Mexico, Argentina, and the States. During this time we prepare the school for the arrival of the students (who are missionaries, artists, worshipers). For this school in YWAM, we have 5 students, 2 of them are Mexicans, 1 from Mazatlán and 1 from Nuevo León, and 3 American missionaries based here in Mazatlan. All of them are girls who are super talented musicians and singers, passionate for God and to do missions.

This is the base located in MEXICO, Mazatlan Sinaloa.

Every week we have different speakers that come to the school to teach the students about different topics related to worship to help equip them. In the first week, we had Chris McCall, a YWAM Kona leader, who taught about how to be a good leader in all areas of life. One of his key teachings was to abide in the presence of the lord, that you can not lead someone to a place that you haven’t been. To lead someone you should first know how to get there so you can help bring them there. It is the same with God if you haven’t been with God you can not bring someone to him.

This is the video of the week that shows a little bit of student class and what we are doing here:

The second week was about worship in missions

The Last week was about the biblical foundation of worship. It was so cool to see the identity of worship rooted in the truth of the gospel, the history of worship in the Christian church as well as the meaning and importance of it ( biblical word view, worship is not just something we do but worship is turning us into someone show me what you worship and I will show you what you love. looking that in the practices in the tabernacle in the early church to learn how to worship, to worship in the way God wants us to worship, worshiping in spirit and in truth.

It has been super cool to see all 5 girls growing in their musical and spiritual skills. Every week they have to compose a song and this week was a testimonial song where they told their testimonies. They had to write the song and compose it and partner with the other musicians to present it. It was super cool to see people being touch by their songs.

These are some photos of the song cafe, kind of an open mic night where all people are invited to the coffee shop on the base where the girls perform their songs.

During this time they have had to lead worship at the base, which has been incredible to see their change of heart towards worship and how they are applying what they have learned.

They are rocking!! They are worshiping with all their heart, mind, and spirit and this is all in the first month of school. it’s so cool to see how God is working in their lives and their music.

AS YOU KNOW I LOVE SOCCER AND KIDS,

After the game, we provide some snacks and share a Bible story with a message and also pray. In the beginning, none of the children wanted to pray, but now when we ask who wants to pray almost everyone raises their hands to be selected to pray or share what they had learned. We are building a relationship and also we are trying to positively influence their lives by showing the love of God in soccer and in a relationship, with the main Goal to disciple them.

AND every Thursday God allowed me to be part of soccer with purpose. This is through a soccer ministry where we go to one of the hardest neighborhoods in Mazatlan and we play soccer with kids aged from 6 to 17. Some of them show up with bruises or with cigarettes when they come to play. Others have experimented with violence at home or drug abuse, so that’s the reason we go and play soccer with them and show them that they are valuable. That they are loved and special. Normally 15 to 19 kids show up, we grouped them in 3 to 4 teams and normally have an intense incredible soccer game.
